This year Albury Wodonga Martial Arts (AWMA) is celebrating our 10th year! Amongst our special events we are including a writing competition on the theme of Martial Arts with our friends at Martial Artists Magazine Australia publishing the winning entries.
It can be either fiction or non-fiction and you don’t have to be a martial artist to enter. It could be a story featuring martial arts or you could write an essay about an aspect of training. Or a piece about what martial arts means to you. Whatever you like, as long as martial arts are a central part and you treat it with respect.
Make sure you read the terms and conditions so that your entry will be accepted for judging.
Proceeds after entry fees and expenses will go to an amazing local organization, Yes Unlimited. This not-for-profit organisation has been delivering services for more than 40 years. They aim to build thriving communities and focus on working with young people, people experiencing homelessness and families escaping domestic and family violence. As a family focused dojo, we value the work that organisations such as Yes, Unlimited do to help the most vulnerable in our community.
We are pleased to announce our judges:
Vanessa McKay | Publications Manager of Martial Arts Magazine Australia |
Noah Legel | Renshi 4th Dan Owner of Illinois Practical Karate |
Justin Colbert | Renshi 5th Dan Owner of Albury Wodonga Martial Arts |
In addition to the prizes in each category, any entrant who can attend classes in either Wodonga or Beechworth is eligible to perhaps win the local prize of 6 weeks of free lessons. Or the winner can elect someone to take the lessons instead. So, if you would like to try martial arts or you would like a taste of a different style to your own, don’t forget to tick the LOCAL box on the entry form!
