Flowers in her Hair

Flowers in her Hair by

Grandpa’s hurt again—wrist in a cast.
What happened? Walking in the park, tripped on a leash.
How, dog ran between your legs?
Grandpa looks around, slow, like checking for spies. No one near.
Nah, he says. Watching this girl, flowers in her hair, sunlight catching, long strides, dress wrapping ‘round her legs…
Broke an ankle last year, didn’t you?
Yeah. Fell off my bike. There was this girl…
Bruised your arm? All purple. How?
Grandma pinched me. Hard. Left her mark.
There was this girl… flowers in her hair…
