Split in Two by

“To me,” he crouched down, resting his elbow on his knee. “You are all that I am.”

 

            He mumbled this over and over to himself, a heavy weight beginning to compress his chest. He sobbed quietly, thinking about who he once was.

 

******She truly was all that he was. Like two paintings decorated in the same paint, by the same artist, their personalities melded together like beautiful artwork.

 

******Her smile danced across his lips. Her laugh infected him. Her happiness was his. However, her tears also stained his cheeks. Her dread consumed him too. Her downfall quickly became his, although he never saw that he was falling until he hit the pavement.

 

******Now, he sits alone on the ground outside of the nicest restaurant in town, with broken flowers scattering the concrete around him, a small box dangling precariously from his pocket, and with his world split in two.
