“Can you believe these so-called people we elected into government?Akinsooto whispered to his colleagues, nodding toward the latest scandal splashed across the news.Billions in dollars stolen again. Public funds. And no shame.”
 
Sighs and raised tones rippled across the office. Everyone had an opinion. Everyone hated corruption. Everyone… 
 
Akinsooto got an email.The contract is open now. Send the budget.”
 
The school furniture budget. One million naira. One million naira for desks, chairs, and boards – for children who sat on bare floors under leaking roofs.
 
Akinsooto opened the spreadsheet.
 
At the bottom of the invoice, he typedTwo hundred million. Ha! This should pay for Ikeoluwa’s second year of tuition at Oxford, thank God for her partial scholarship.”
 
He blinked, then typed in the names. After adjusting the columns, he checked his balance. 
 
Laughter bounced off the cracked walls as he poured himself another cup of tea.
 
Outside, children ran barefoot past the office windows.
